Startled by Damian's reaction, or lack thereof, Aes could only stare at him in disbelief. After a few moments, she shrugged.
"My gun's broken," she said, gesturing towards the twisted mass on the table. "It was crushed when I caught you, I believe," she added.

Meanwhile, Artemis crawled back onto her seat and watched the exchange. So this guy was wanted, too? Well, at least interesting stuff had been happening since she met up with Aes. Life wasn't quite so boring anymore.
"My gun's broken."
Artemis perked up. Oh, right, she was supposed to be working on the new design. She picked up her pen and stared at the blueprint for a few seconds, then began resketching part of the handle. Stupid grips.

To Damian, this was all very amusing. Here he was, calmly sipping his soda, a bounty hunter that wanted his blood sitting right across from him who claimed she couldn't capture him because her gun was broken.
Hah! Who was she kidding? There were two possibilities here. One, that she was telling the truth. Yes, as a highly skilled bounty hunter, once her gun was out of comission, she was completely harmless. The other possibility was that she was just a delusional kid wo craved adventure and wanted to be more than she was.
Yep, that sounded about right. After all, seeing how young she was, there was no WAY she could be an accomplished bounty hunter - yet.
"Well, it was nice talking to you two. But kid, you're at least five years too early to even think about capturing me, and I'm practically on the bottom of the food chain. Try hunting me when you're a little more experienced. Maybe I'll even give you a handicap - as thanks for saving my life."
Smiling slightly, Damian got up and walked away, giving the so-called bounty hunter a pat on the head on his way past.

As Damian got up to leave, Aes felt all her fury at the misfortune she had encountered today well up, and the pat on the head she received from him was the final straw. She stuck her foot out as he walked by, and gave him a shove in the back with her forearm to ensure his fall.

At the same time as Aes made to trip Damian, Artemis jumped up, ready to give the man a smack upside the head and a long lecture. She raised an indignant finger (on behalf of her friend), and then realized Aes's plan and paused. Well, Damian would be less likely to listen to her if he was preoccupied with falling, so she'd just wait until he landed to start.
Yes. This would work nicely.

Damian's eyes widened in surprise and he felt himself falling forward. Sticking out a forearm and tucking his head in, he let himself fall, and rolled over, getting back on his feet as quickly as he could. Turning back to the pair, Damian's eyes narrowed. It seems he'd underestimated her. She was fast enough to catch him off-guard before he noticed...
If it came to a fight, even two against one, Damian was confident he could at least stall them then escape... but he'd rather not have it come to that. He'd never be able to... fight a girl.
He took a deep breath and then spoke, "So you want to move our confrontation date up, eh? Well you better think twice about this first. Look around you, there're way too many bystanders. That little kid over there by the snack bar could get hurt in the cross-fire. Do you want to risk injuring innocents?"
If his previous encounters with bounty hunters was anything to judge by, this girl would probably back down rather than fight in such a crowded area. Even so, Damian tensed, ready to dodge at the sound of a gunshot, unlikely that it was for the gun to be in working condition.

Artemis stood with her arm raised and mouth open, watching, amazed, as Damian somersaulted and popped back up again. When he spoke, it was to Aes--something about bystanders and crossfire? Hah, he was being stuipd. Aes's gun was still a mangled lump on a coffee shop table. His reflexes were definitely something, though. She felt him tense and shift his weight, seeming ready to dodge. Artemis supposed that she shouldn't be involved in this, really, because Damian was certainly ignoring her and Aes seemed preoccupied with him.
Nevertheless, staying out of something had never been one of her strong points.
"Hey! Mister tough-guy!" she yelled, finally doing something with her raised arm (in this instance, she chose to wave it in righteous anger at Damian). "You're five years too early to even think of underestimating Aes! She's a world-class bounty hunter, and you're the bottom of the food chain. Instead of being so eager to get captured now, you should be glad her gun's broken. Use the time to improve your dodging abilities, and then you might even stand a sliver of a chance against her!"
She shot him a final glare, then sat back down, picked up her pen, and began to sketch once again. Artemis wasn't really interested in what happened next, since Aes was unarmed and Damian knew it. She was done with that train of thought (and her attention span was probably the shortest on that side of Ceyestis.) She had become more occupied with finishing the evil handle-grip-thing. Why did humans even come with hands? Geez.

Although Aes appreciated the fact that Artemis was standing up for her, she was worried that Damian might be provoked into an actual fight, which was the last thing she wanted in public with a broken gun. She gave an appreciative nod to Artemis before turning to Damian.
"I have no need or desire to fight you here and now. When the time comes for me to catch you, we'll see each other again," she looked around the room. "You'd better get out of here. It seems we've gotten some unwanted attention." Indeed, several heads turned and chairs pushed back after their short scuffle. She dropped her voice to a barely audible mutter. "There could be other bounty hunters here that need the money now. But don't worry about losing your life too soon. You're worth more alive and Well-ington." She smirked and took a sip of her water, pleased with her little joke.

Damian nodded in satisfaction, glad he wouldn't have to fight. Then as he heard that last remark, he resisted the urge to groan. That was the absolute WORST joke he had ever heard.
Instead, he shrugged and walked away. Aes was right - they HAD attracted some unwanted attention. And it wouldn't be smart to stick around and get captured. Where was Atticus anyway? Damian tossed his empty can of soda in a nearby recycling bin, and headed over to the exit, hoping he'd be able to find his shipmate outside.

Artemis looked up in time to see Damian heading for the exit. She hummed and said to Aes conversationally, "soooo.... He was weird."

With a snort of indignation, Aes picked up her drink and finished it off. She looked around. A few suspicious pairs of eyes were still on them.
"Uhh....I think I'd better go too," she muttered to Artemis, standing up and grabbing her walking stick. "I don't know about you, but I'd better find another inn."

"Oh, really?" Artemis asked. "Well, let me put all this junk away and then we can go." She gathered up all her papers and shoved them unceremoniously into her bag, then did the same with her pen and stood, waiting expectantly for Aes. She didn't know why Aes wanted to leave, but Artemis knew that she was definitely sticking around for a while yet.

Aes nodded. She turned and hobbled out the door, pulling her cap down over her eyes.

Artemis, plush cat firmly encased in a deathgrip involving both her arms, followed Aes, squinting as she walked into the brightly-light street. Curse the sun--so far away, and yet, so very... sunny. "So, where to now? If we can find a table or some flat ground I can finish up your blueprint, then we can take it back to that grumpy old weapons smith. It's been almost an hour--maybe he's forgotten our deal and we can get the whole thing for free!"

"Hmm..." Aes looked around for a table, or something else that Artemis could finish her blueprint on. She spotted an abandoned stall, and limping over to it, grazed her finger across the surface to check for dust.
"Hmm...I suppose it's not too dirty, and no one's likely to notice us," she mumbled to Artemis. "You could work on it here, if you don't mind..."
